Biography: Roman pottery workshop, prolific producer of north Italian Firmalampen.The workshop of the original Fortis was probably near Modena in Cisalpine Gaul, and probably started production in the middle of the reign of Vespasian. It is unclear how long he and his workshop continued production but lamps bearing the name date from as late as AD 200-230. FORTIS lamps of provincial manufacture are widely found: the name must have been pirated.
