The Birdseed Painter

Biography: Athenian vase-painter working during the Late Geometric Period whose name is unknown. Nevertheless consistent individual characteristics of style suggest the existence of a unique artistic personality. He is called the Birdseed Painter having been named after his characteristic files of birds in silhouette standing on two stiff legs, their diagonal necks and bodies answered by diagonal rows of dots. Many vases have been attributed to his hand and that of his workshop on the basis of style.
