- Biography
- Lorenzo Vaccari or de la Vacherie, della Vaccheria, della Vaccaria. Printer and print dealer. Active in Bologna (Bellini) and then from c.1575, in Rome (Ehrle). His shop 'all'insegna della Palma d'Oro' was in the via de' Banchi Nuovi opposite San Giuliano in Banchi at Monte Giordano. In 1577 he described himself: "son libraro e vendo disegni ch'io fo stampar alla giornata" (Masetti Zannini). Congregation of the Virtuosi al Pantheon, 8 Feb 1579, described as 'mercante di disegni' (Orbaan). His activity continued into the seventeenth century under his sons Andrea and Michelangelo. 1599 plan of Rome by Maggi (Huelsen; Ashby p.124 n.1), and in 1608, a set of 16 copies after G.A. Maglioli (Guilmard, 1880, p.309).
He printed Dupérac's Vestigi dell'Antichità di Roma, 1575. Published the 'Antiquarum statuarum urbis Romae... icones', 1584 (Ex typis Laurentij Vaccarij, 1584). He published the work of many engravers, including Cort, Cherubino Alberti, Orazio de Santis, Domenico Viti, Francesco Villamena and Philippe Thomassin.
