- Biography
- Painter of portraits, animal pictures, heroic animal histories and poetical scenes of rural life. Also made mezzotints using a novel method. Born Liverpool 1724; died London 10 July 1806. In Rome in 1754. 1758 began his dissections of horses, which lead to the engraved work 'The Anatomy of the Horse' in 1766. ARA 1780.
