- Biography
- Print dealer and publisher. Early career publishing satires, often by Colley. Later became the leading specialist in portrait prints with Thane. Published series of facsimiles of rare early British portraits for Grangerisers.
Lugt refers to him as William Richardson Jr., suggesting that his father was also a printseller; a print published by him in 1810 is lettered 'Wm,, Richardson Junr,,' (see 1858,0213.138). It may be WR Senior who traded from 68, High Holborn in 1778. Note the prints by H.MacPhail, published from 68 High Holborn in 1784; this might be a pseudonym. Trade card in Banks Collection (D,2.3481) advertises "Richardson, Print Seller. No.174, Strand near Surry [sic] Street. Prints & Drawings fram'd & Glaz'd. Miniature Frames &c."
A watercolour dated 1853 by T H Shepherd shows "the house occupied by Mr Richardson, the print seller and auctioneer, at the corner of Villiers Street, the Strand, 1809", see 1880,1113,2834.
