- Biography
- Print publisher in Paris, son of François Nicolas Martinet (q.v.), with whom he worked on his botanical publications; married Madeleine Meirieu June 1792 (daughter of a wealthy tradesman). Nothing known of next years. In 1796 established firm, which became famous for its caricatures of which the window display was changed every fortnight (see the Bergeret lithograph, 'Les Musards de la rue du Coq'). By the restoration had also opened a reading room, and co-published various guide books and pamphlets on the arts. Martinet's daughter, Suzanne-Flore, married Hermenégilde Hautecoeur in 1822, and from then on the firm was known as Hautecoeur-Martinet. Martinet retired shortly thereafter, although prints are lettered 'Chez Martinet' as late as 1830 (see 1999,0926.40). See separate entry for Martinet-Hautecoeur (the preferred term here, rather than Hautecoeur-Martinet which is often found in the lettering).

- IFF (illustrated list of 132 nos. It is extremely incomplete, and contains only plates with unknown designers published by him; it is therefore not generally cited in this connection.)
