- Biography
- Architect, designer and engraver; son of Jean Marot I (q.v.). Born and trained France; emigrated as Huguenot to Netherlands in 1685 and became court designer to William III (q.v.). Married sister of Jacob Gole (qv). Obtained a Dutch general privilege for his prints in 1687 (see P.Fuhring, Rijksmuseum Ornament catalogue, 2004, III p.372). Thought to have been in England c.1694-7. Thereafter in The Hague, working until his death. His prints were re-published after 1702 by Pierre Husson. Almost all his ornament designs belong to the years from 1689-1702.
His prints were published in three editions (see Bowett), each expanded from its predecessor: in 1703 (108 plates), 1712 (126 plates) and 1716? (108 + 129 plates in 2 vols)
