- Biography
- Etcher, engraver and print publisher in Rome. His name appears in the Libro delle Arti e Università delli Pittori (Archivio Accademia di San Luca, Rome, vol.formerly 2, now 42A, f.4v/5r under the year 1534, January) paying his entrance fee of 2 scudi. 1549 recorded as painter of Cardinal Sforza: 'mastro Michael da Luca pittore de Cardinale Santa Fiore' (see Leproux, Bibl. de l'ecole des chartes, 149, 1991, p.306: 'magister Michele da Lucca pictor in domo Reverendissimi Sancta Flora).
Prints dated 1553-1564 and signed with monogram ML. Several dedicated to Guido Ascanio Sforza. Etched Crucifixion of St Peter after Michelangelo, and a set of architectural fantasies, 'Prospettive et antichita di Roma' sometime after 1551. Engravings after Polidoro da Caravaggio, Raphael and Peruzzi. 'Popular' print: L'Asinaria, 1564.
