- Biography
- Publisher, printer and print dealer, from Orgelet (Franche-Comté). Entire career spent in Rome, where already recorded as 'stampatore' by De Marchi in 1542. Shop in 'via Parionis' which is the present day via del Governo Vecchio. 1577 he was described as 'impressor'; in 1580 as 'incisoris et stampatoris' (but there is no other evidence of his having been an engraver). 9 April 1576 described as 'mercante di disegni' (Masetti Zannini). The 1553 partnership agreement with Salamanca (terminated 28 September 1563) for a society: 'super stampatura et arte stampaturae quarumcumque ipsarum stamparum'. (Ehrle). Partnership agreement with Adamo Scultori, 1576 (Masetti Zannini).
His stocklist of plates of 1573 (the earliest known, reprinted by Ehrle), shows a wide variety of stock: maps, ancient and modern Rome, portraits, mythological, historical, devotional and ornament prints. Owned plates by Cort, Jacob Bos, Ghisi, Beatrizet among others. For dealing in drawings see letter of Dosio to N. Gaddi, 25 July 1578, about a cartoon of Raphael mounted on cloth by Lafreri (Bottari). Also traded in coins and medals.
His heirs were Claudio and Francesco Duchetti, sons of his sister.
