- Biography
- Son of Robert Havell I (q.v.), with whom he sometimes collaborated. Specialist as aquatinter, took charge of producing the plates for Audubon's Birds. On completion of the project, emigrated to USA in 1839 and, subsequently, a member of the Hudson River school of painters. Trade card in Heal Collection (Heal,100.34) advertises "Robt. Havell Engraver, Printseller & Publisher to their Majesties & the Royal Family. 77, Oxford Street opposite the Pantheon, London. Importer of, and Dealer in British & Foreign, Birds, Insects &c. An Extensive assortment of Birds, Oval & Square Shades. Zoological Gallery... Water Colours in Cakes or Boxes. Black Lead Pencils, Brushes, Drawing Papers, Bristol & London Boards, Crayon & Coloured Papers of every description, Shells. Birds & Beasts Stuffed & Preserved in the Highest Perfection. Gold & Fancy Wood Frames. Albums, Scrap Books & Book Binding. Printing. Drawings & Prints lent to Copy."
