- Biography
- Copper-plate printer in Paris (where ran a firm), and occasional etcher. Worked for Alfred Cadart and the Société des Aquafortistes. Removed to London for some years after his workshop and house were partly destroyed by the Prussian bombardment and Commune in 1870/1 (see Diaries of Samuel Avery for 6 July 1871). Still in London in 1873, but back in Paris by at least 1877/8. Aurélien Vacheret (email Oct 2021): New information about Delâtre is recorded in a drawing book of Charles Friry (1802-1881), a French collector and draughtsman. He mention "Delâtre imprimeur en taille douce, successeur A. Quantin et Cie rue Benoît n°7". The drawing album dates from 1877-1878. Delâtre was succeeded by his son Eugène (q.v.)
