Heal's annotations on mount: "Compare billhead [below] in A.H. collection of Martha & Hilton Wray at the original Medicinal Warehouse, Kings Arms, No.14 Birchin Lane. 1784."
Heal,35.85 is a bill-head dated 1784 stating: "Bought of Martha & Hilton Wray, Successors of the late Robert Turlington & Wm. Wray, at the Original Medicinal Warehouse... Of whom only can be had Turlington's Genuine and Original Balsam of Life, At the above Warehouse, Merchants, Captains of Ships, Country Dealers, & the Public in General, may be Supplyed [sic] Wholesale & Retail, with Daffy's, Stoughton's, Squire's, Ratcliffe's & Bostock's Elixirs, Golden & Plain Spirits of Scurvy Grass, Hungary, Lavender, Rose & Citron Waters, Hooper's & Anderson's Pills, Bateman's Drops, British Oil, Godfrey's Cordial, Bathing Spirits, & all other Articles in the Drug & Medicinal way." Heal's annotations on mount: "Compare trade-card in A.H. collection of Wray & Co. Birchin Lane. 1777 Directory gives Wray & Co, merchants, 14 Birchin Lane. An advertisement from 'Whitehall Evening Post' 25th-27th March 1756 in A.H.'s collection of Robert Turlington, Patentee of 'Balsam of Life' at the Kings Arms, in Birchin Lane, London. Another advt. in A.H. collection (no source or date) gives the date of the Letters Patent to Robert Turlington as 3rd Jan: 1743 & his address as 'at his Elixir Warehouse, in Ball alley, Lombard Street'."
