- Trade card in Heal Collection (Heal,35.8) advertises "Samuel Blackwell Druggist... Sells all Sorts of Tea, Coffee, Chocolate, Snuff, Spaw, Pyrmont, Searborough & Bristol Waters, and all Sorts of Druggs [sic], Wholesale and Retail. Fine Egyptian Wafers." Heal's annotations on mount: "Noted on back 'Hambleton - vouchers from 30 June 1748 to 23rd July 1752'. London Directory 1740 gives 'William' Blackwell, druggist, Holbourn'." Photograph of a bill-head in Banks Collection (Banks,35.10) states "Bought of Samuel Blackwell... Who Sells all sorts of Tea, Coffee, Chocolate, Snuff, Spaw & Pyrmont Waters, & all sorts of Drugs by Wholesale & Retail." Bill-head (Heal,68.27) states "Bought of Samuel Blackwell & Son Druggists..." The bill is dated 1764. Heal's annotations on mount: "Compare billheads in A.H. collection of Samuel Blackwell & son, successors to Peter Smee (late Collet Mawhood's) Druggists at Golden Lyon & Unicorn in the Strand, dated 1768. Compare billheads in A.H. collection as above but altered to Chas. Blackwell 1767. A trade-card (?billhead) was in the Broadley Collection of Samuel Blackwell, druggist at Queen's Head & Star, Holborn, dated 1752. A billhead in Bishop of Ely's bills of John Brownell teaman at Golden Lion & Unicorn in the Strand (after S. Blackwell)." Bill-head (Heal,68.28) states "Bought of Charles Blackwell (Successor to Peter Smee) Druggist at the Golden Lion & Unicorn..." the bill is dated 1767. Bill-head (Heal,68.29) states "Bought of Samuel Blackwell & Son (Successors to Peter Smee) Druggists at the Golden Lion & Unicorn..." The bill is dated 1768. Heal's annotations on mount: "Compare bills of Collet Mawhood at same address dated 1748. Compare bills of James Mawhood at same address, druggist, dated 1756. Compare bills of Peter Smee & Co, at same address, druggist, dated 1758. Compare bills of Peter Smee, at same address, druggist, dated 1759.
