- Two trade cards in Heal Collection. Heal,28.8 advertises "All sorts of Cabbinet [sic] Work, Chairs, Glasses, Sconces, & Coach Glasses, Made & Sold, at Reasonable Rates by John Belchier...Choyce of Turkey & Musquet Carpits [sic]"
Heal's annotations on mount: " 'Hilton Price's 'Signs of S. Paul's Churchyard' gives " 'Sun' South side near Doctors Commons 1741-50 John Belchier (cabinet maker)." The card illustrated on p.147 of above is slightly different to this copy. It is dated 1741 & the address is given at ye Sun on the South side of St. Paul's near Doctors Commons & the last 2 lines of the heading do not appear. The original was in the Robinson Collection Aug. 1922 - now in A.H. collection. In the 'Purefoy Letters' mentions of him occur in the years 1735-1750, on pp:99, 107, etc., etc. A card of Thomas Atkinson, at the above address, "successor to the late Mr. Belcher [sic]" dated 1755 was in the Robinson Collection (now in A.H. collection). Mr Belchier deceased, "Very eminent cabinet-maker; aged near 70 years, at his house in St. Paul's Churchyard", 1753."
Heal,28.9 advertises "All sorts of Cabbinet Work, Chairs, Glasses, Sconces, & Coach-Glasses, Made & Sold, at Reasonable Rates by John Belchier at ye Sun on the South side of St. Paul's, near Doctors-Commons."
Heal's annotations on mount: "Dated 1741. Illustrated in Hilton Price's 'Signs of St. Paul's Churchyard' p. 143." Further notes are identical to those of Heal,28.8
