- Artist, born Germany, 1962. Work inspired by the beauty, structure and atmosphere of mashrabiyas (latticed woodwork) in Cairo and explores the coding and de-coding of these works as viewed from different cultural contexts. Numerous solo and group exhibitions throughout Europe, the Middle East, South Africa and the United States, including the Guggenheim in New York, 2016; Israel Museum, 2015; Museum Villa Stuck, 2015; Osthaus Museum, 2014; Sharjah Biennial in 2007; Townhouse Gallery Cairo, 2007; ACAF Alexandria, 2008; The Third Line Gallery, Dubai, 2008; and 7; the Louvre, Paris in 2004. Won first prize in the International Award at the Cairo Biennial, 1997 and most recently was awarded the Daniel and Florence Guerlain contemporary drawing award in Paris, 2013. Work is held in public collections including the Sharjah Art Museum; Victoria and Albert Museum, London; Institut du Monde Arabe, Paris; DIFC, Dubai; and Staatsgalerie, Stuttgart.
