The Xenokles Painter

Biography: Athenian black-figure vase-painter whose name is unknown. Nevertheless consistent individual characteristics of style suggest the existence of a unique artistic personality. Beazley called him the Xenokles Painter, naming him after the potter Xenokles (q.v.) for whom he decorated some cups. He appears to have been influenced by the C Painter (q.v.). A few other vases have been attributed to his hand on the basis of style.
