Biography: Followed Canute to England, where he was invested as Earl of York in 1031. Married Aelflaed, daughter of Uchtred the Bold, former Earl of Northumbria, their children being Osberne and Waltheof. Lead the English invasion into Scotland, defeating Macbeth at Dunsinane in 1054. He famously regretted 'dying like a cow', rather than in battle. He was suceeded as Earl of Northumbria by Tostig, Osberne having been killed in battle and Waltheof still too young.
