Biography: Natural scientist, draughtsman, physician and philologist. Born Zurich 1516, died Zurich 1565. Related to well known printsmaker and draughtsman family in Zurich. Studied medicine and philology 1533/34-41 in Paris, Montpellier and Basle. 1535/36 teacher in Zurich. 1537 professor in Lausanne. Before 1554 back to Zurich. Wrote c. 70 tracts which are richly illustrated.
