- London printseller; specialist in maps, plans and prints of specialist subject-matter such as machines, sports, monuments and so on. Appears in two portraits in Prints & Drawings, one with his wife, the other as one of a group of twenty-two London printsellers in 1784. Two similar trade cards in Heal Collection, and two in Banks Collection. Heal,100.68 and Banks (D,2.3399 & D,2.3450) advertise "J. Seago, Print-Seller, High Street, St. Giles's near Tottenham Court Road, London." and has an illustration of "Old Simon." According to Heal's annotations on the mount "Simon Edy or 'Old Simon' b.1709-d.1783 was a well known beggar who generally took up his position against one of the gate piers of St. Giles' Churchyard. For full description see Clinch's (?) 'St. Giles in the Fields' p.35." Heal also states "On a copy of this card in the Ponsonby collection, a note has been added that 'Seago died 1810'. Gardner Collection.1st State." Heal,100.69 and Banks (D,2.3490) have the same illustration of 'Old Simon'. The address differs slightly in that High Street, St. Giles's is given as "near the Church." Banks (D,2.3489) advertises "J. Seago, Print & Bookseller. High Street, St. Giles's, near Tottenham Court Road. Prints, Drawings & Books bought."
