Biography: Author; wife of Swiss banker Jacques Necker (q.v.) whom she married in 1764; she bore him a daughter, Anne Louise Germaine (who became a renowned author under the name of Madame de Staël); she encouraged the political career of her husband, persuading him to give up banking for public offices; she also held a litterary salon which exerted considerable influence in favouring Necker's career; founded a hospital c.1776 that still exists ('Hopital Necker', in Paris).
