- Biography
- Printing company founded in Guernsey in 1813 by Thomas de la Rue; 1821, set up as printer, stationer, playing-card makers, and fancy goods manufacturer in London; mid 19thC official printer of stamps and paper money; 1921 de la Rue family left the business which became a public company. The company printing works, at 110 Bunhill Row, London, was destroyed by an air raid in 1940. 1944-77 conglomerate phase, acquiring a range of other businesses on an international scale; 1969 playing card business sold to John Waddington. Now primarily famous as printers of banknotes and related securities.
