Biography: Cleric and statesman; tutor and secretary to Philippe II of Orléans, he benefited by the Regency and was appointed State Councillor (1715), Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs (1718) and Prime Minister (1722); notably played a key role in the creation of the Triple Alliance (1717); created Archbishop of Cambrai (1720) then Cardinal (1721), he was also elected at the Académe Française in 1722.
