Adelbert von Chamisso

Biography: Chamisso's family fled from France to Germany during the French Revolution. In 1796 he became a page for the Queen of Prussia and between 1798 and 1807 he served as an officer in the Prussian army. Between 1815 and 1818 he sailed around the world. Upon his return, he started working for the Berlin Botanical gardens and was in charge of te herbarium. He is most famous for his achievements as a writer and poet, with his work "Frauenliebe und -leben" being transformed into a cycle of songs by Robert Schumann.
