- Son of James Talbot, 3rd Baron Talbot of Malahide and Anne Sarah Rodbard. Born in England and arrived in Fremantle in Western Australia on the “Caroline”, 12 October 1829. Joined Dr T B Wlson and others exploring Canning River region. Member, along with Dr Alexander Collie, of J.S. Roe's party which explored the Collie River in March 1830.Was appointed Commissioner and Secretary of the Board of Control and Audit shortly afterwards. Resigned later that year and left for Tasmania November 1830. Appears to have moved back and forth between Tasmania and Swan River. In 1838, appointed honorary member of the Agricultural Society at meeting held at Woodford, Guildford, Western Australia. Returned to Albany on board the “Tamar” in January 1841. Returned to England in 1846, was declared of 'unsound mind', and died in London in 1863.
Was the nephew of William Talbot (1784?-1845), a prominent pastoralist in Tasmania. The Courier, Hobart, noted in 1845 that: 'We understand that Mr. Samuel Neil Talbot, the nephew of the late Honourable William Talbot, inherits the fine and productive estate of Malahide, and that he may be expected soon to arrive in the colony, which, from his former activity and great experience here, with his study of colonial policy and acquired knowledge by extensive travels in Europe and the colonies, will, we doubt not, benefit largely by his support. We shall hail him as a great acquisition to our little state, in all perilous and critical times.'
