Biography: Gwari potter, who designed domestic and functional pots through traditional coiling, pinching and beating clay; distinctively decorated with figurative and geometric motifs - lizards, birds and insects. Joined Abuja Pottery Training Centre in Nigeria, established 1951 by Michael Cardew, where she developed techniques in use of the potter's wheel, glazing and kiln firing. Exhibited at Berkeley Galleries in London (1958 and 1962), and Galerie La Borne, Paris. Demonstrated Gwari pottery techniques during tours to Europe and America, with Michael Cardew. Gained an MBE in 1963, honorary degree in 1977, and Nigerian National Merit Award for academic achievement. Work held in collections; including Smithsonian National Museum of African Art, USA; Victoria and Albert Museum, and Aberystwyth University Ceramics Gallery, UK. Exhibited at University for the Creative Arts, Farnham; curated in 2015 by Magdalene Odundo.
