Biography: Painter and draughtsman; artist at the court of Shah Tahmasp (r. 1524-76) at Tabriz. Project director for the Shahnama of Shah Tahmasp from 1527 to circa 1530; father of Mir Sayyid ʿAli (q.v.) whom he followed to the court of the Mughal emperor Humayun (r. 1530–40 and 1555–56) in the late 1540s.
