Description
Dismantled old repairs, as old joins were unstable. Dismantled using a jiffy steamer filled with de-ionised water to soften the joins, which were joined with fish glue. After dismantling cleaned remaining glue off with warm water and cotton wool swabs. Consolidated loose areas with 5-10% Paraloid B72 (ethyl methacrylate copolymer) in 70:30 Acetone (propan-1-one/dimethyl ketone): Industrial methylated spirits (ethanol, methanol), applied with a glass micro-pipette. Removed excess adhesive with Acetone applied on a soft brush and a watchmaker's puffer. Reapplied consolidant several times until the loose areas were stable. Bonded object in one sitting with 50% Paraloid B72. Held joins together with magic self adhesive tape. After adhesive had cured, removed tapes with IMS. Re-consolidated any loose areas.
