Reason
Post-survey
Description
Using a scalpel the amulet was cut away from the mount with the fabric attached. Adhesive bonding the object to the fabric was softened by applying cotton wool on the reverse wetted with either I.M.S. (Industrial Methylated Spirits) or warm water as appropriate. Once softened the fabric was removed from the object and adhesive residues removed with either a scalpel or swabs as appropriate. If numbering was necessary a barrier layer of 20% Paraloid B72 (ethyl methacrylate copolymer) in acetone was applied in a discrete position. The BIG number was applied with a brush under magnification using either black or white ink (Aerocolor Professional acrylic ink). A top coat of 20% Paraloid B72 was applied for protection.
