Reason: Temporary Exhibition; Loan; Examination
Description: Support and media examined in detail using magnification, transmitted light and raking light in preparation for the exhibition 'Fra Angelico to Leonardo: Italian Renaissance Drawings'.* Lifted from mount by cutting through inlay paper. Inlay paper peeled carefully away from edges of verso and remaining debris removed as much as possible dry using a scalpel. Final traces of inlay paper fibre and adhesive removed by briefly applying a poultice of Culminal (nonionic cellulose ether) and wiping with cotton wool swabs lightly moistened with tap water. Pressed locally. Inlaid using Japanese paper strips and Culminal (nonionic cellulose ether) adhesive. Pressed. Mounted into an overthrow 6ply Royal mount using Heritage 100% cotton museum board.
