Description: The object was dry cleaned using a Wishab sponge (vulcanized latex,filler). The dirt and sponge residues were removed with a soft brush and a vacuum cleaner. The surface was then more thoroughly cleaned using a solution mix of 50:50% de-ionised water and Acetone (propan-1-one/dimethyl ketone) and cotton wool swabs. Blobs of modern paint were softened with Nitromors water soluble (methylene chloride,sodium hydroxide,cellulose), and Acetone and then removed mechanically with a scalpel blade. The gap under the base, between the old resin base was filled with glass microballoons (mixed with 20% paraloib B72 in 50:50% acetone and IMS (industrial methylated spirits)). A new card base was then adhered using Evostick woodworking adhesive (polyvinyl acetate emulsion). Any remaining gaps were also filled with microballoons to create a solid supporting base. The base was then sanded and smoothed to create and even finish. The excess card was removed from the base. Acrylic paints were used to tone in the base with the original stone. Plaster from the old fixing in the top of the bust was removed. Microballoons were used to fill a small crack running diagonally across the female figure on the proper right hand side. Acrylic paints were used to touch-in and match the fill to the original stonework. The older fill between the two figures was also toned in with acrylics to blend with the original.
