Description
The object has been re-mounted in order to fit in a storage space with the dimensions 116 x 60 x 11.5 cm. A sheet of Tycor (honeycomb centre made of cardboard sandwiched between two sheets of cardboard) was used as a support board due to its lightweight and rigid structure. The front of the board was covered with cotton domette and then cotton calico as the top layer. The textiles were then folded at the back of the board and adhered using heat activated Vinamul 3252 (vinyl acetate, ethylene copolymer), the corners were stitched using slip stitch. Another sheet of cotton calico was attached to the back of the board, stretched and stitched to the calico that was folded back from the front using slip stitch. Four handles made of cotton tape were attached to the shorter sides of the board, two on each side. The object was then moved from the old storage mount onto the new board by slipping a rigid piece of Melinex (polyester) underneath the object; the object could then safely be moved resting on the Melinex. Once in position, it was secured using cotton tapes that were stitched to the board and then tied around the object. The board was then placed in a Corex (fluted polyethylene board) box with lid. Images taken of the object were placed with the object in order to reduce object handling. The treatment was carried out by Heidrun Gassner.
