Reason: Storage
Description: The two large loose textiles pieces were removed laid flat and then vacuumed using a low-suction vacuum cleaner, with a protective net filter. Occasionaly a soft sable brush was used to direct dust and plaster fragments towards the nozzle. The thinner strips of wrappings were laid flat and also vacuumed. Fixed wrappings on the mummy itself were vacuumed as described above. Much of the wrappings were retraced and re-laid during this treatment. It was possible to re-position most of the textiles in what appeared to be their original position, however a number of shorter wrapping fragments < 100cm long could not be reattached, as there was no evidence of their original position. These loose textiles along with the larger pieces were placed within acid free boxes and labelled to be stored seperately. The areas considered to be the most vunerable were then wrapped in nylon net dyed with Lanaset (comp. unknown). This was stitched to itself using filaments from the net using a surgical curved needle. The areas wrapped included the head, chest region to the waist and the feet. The mummy was placed on a wooden tray provided by AES.
