Description
The polychromed figures were cleaned with Wishad sponge and where necessary with swabs moistened with saliva. Any areas of flaking paint were consolidated with 3% Paraloid B72 in acetone/meths. The rough stone undersides of the figures were flattened off with microballoons in 20% Paraloid B72 in acetone/meths. Slightly rebated pieces of card were adhered to the smoothed bottom surfaces with Paraloid B72 adhesive. The removal of the sulphated let in piece of sandstone could have resulted in damage to the soft limestone of the sculptures. A little of the sandstone was carved away to achieve a better juxtaposition between the two figures and then the sandstone was retouched with acrylic Cryla colours.
