Treatment; 12 Mar 2004; Dismantle, reconstruct, gapfill and paint; Ceramics & Glass

Reason: Permanent Exhibition
Description: The previous reconstruction was dismantled by using the steam cleaner. Adhesive remains on the ceramic edges were cleaned mechanically by using a scalpel and the steam cleaner. The fragments were reconstructed by using HMG Paraloid B72 (methyl ethyl methacrlylate). Prior to the reconstruction , all ceramic edges were sealed by using 2.5 %Paraloid B72 (ethyl methacrylate copolymer) in Acetone (propan-1-one/dimethyl ketone). New fills were made by supporting them on one side with Dental wax (petrochemical mixture) and filling them with Superfine casting plaster (hydrated calcium sulphate) mixed with water.Once the fills were set, they were sanded smooth with an abrasive paper (no.320) and the finest micromesh (4000).For the inpainting, Golden acrylic paints were used together with Golden restoration glaze (gloss) by first creating a body colour and then applying different shades onto it.
