Description: The shoe was vacuumed under low suction to remove surface dirt. It was humidified using Goretex (polytetrafluoro ethylene,polyester laminate) and stuffed with acid free tissue to reshape when flexible enough. The heel was readhered with 20% Klucel G (hydroxypropyl cellulose) in Industrial methylated spirits (ethanol, methanol). After reshaping inserts were made to support the toe and heel areas. The inserts was made of custom dyed silk (Lanaset (metal complex dye) stuffed with Polyester wadding. The heel insert also had melinex and card shaping inside. A mount was made for the shoe to minimise handling during examination. The mount was made from Correx (polypropylene/polyethylene copolymer,corrugated sheet, with two layers of Plastazote (polyethylene); the top layer having a shoe shaped well cut out of it. The well was coated with Mowilith DMC2 (polyvinyl acetate/dibutyl maleate copolymer,cellulose ether)and allowed to dry. Natural coloured cotton jersey was used to cover the mount, ironing it into the well. The number of the shoe was attached to the mount so that it could be seen.
