Treatment; 15 Jan 2003; Stabilise active corrosion and consolidate.; Metals

Description: Soaked in Acetone (propan-1-one/dimethyl ketone) for 48 hours to remove coating and gap fillings then brushed with a stiff stencil brush. Stabilised by electrolytic reduction in a 5% aqueous solution of sodium hydroxide electrolyte using stainless steel anodes, for 85 hours. The black deposit from the reduction process was removed by washing and lightly brushing in running tap water. washed in two changes of distilled water then steam cleaned for 5 minutes. Washed in Five 20 minute changes of distilled water. Dried in Industrial methylated spirits (ethanol,methanol) then in acetone for 30 minutes. Consolidated using 5% Paraloid B72, ethyl methacrylate copolymer, in acetone, applied using brush.(2 applications).
