Treatment; 25 Jan 2001; Analyse lacquer/paint, gilding and substrate then clean and consolidate.; Metals

Description: Obvject sent to conservation scientists for analysis of surface decoration 27.2.01 but returned 22.8.02 as they had not had time to do anything. Test area cleaned with soft sable brush dipped in Industrial methylated spirits (ethanol,methanol). This seemed to remove dirt without dissolving/softening decorative layers so whole cleaned by brushing gently and blotting dirt off brush.
