Treatment; 23 Apr 1996; Remove corrosion to look like 31, and attach handle.; Metals

Reason: Permanent Exhibition
Description: Took sample of solder from rim and neck edge. Sent to Janet Lang in the Research Laboratory. Removed the corrosion with 15 % Ammonium Thiosulphate. Some of the surface is very porous with loss of original surface. Washed in distilled water and dried with paper tissues and a hot air blower. The inside of the vessel was not cleaned. Lighlty polished the surfaces with Goddard's long term silver cloth (comp. unknown) Cleaned the handle in the same way and attached it with Araldite. Strengthened with nylon gossamar and HMG heatproof and waterproof adhesive (cellulose nitrate)
