Treatment; 26 Mar 2002; Remove from board. Remove debris and adhesive. Remove surface dirt. Treat red lead. Repair. Mount to platemark. Stamp verso not mount.; Western Art on Paper

Reason: Temporary Exhibition
Description: Surface cleaned with soft Japanese brush. Board difficult to split so pared down using a scalpel. Final layer removed using a poultice of Culminal (nonionic cellulose ether) This was time consuming due to adhesive, and some fibres were lost. Adhesive residue removed with cotton wool swabs dampened with warm water. Some edge discolouration removed. Humidified over capillary matting and Gore-Tex in a chamber. Red lead treated with ethereal H2O2 using a fine brush. Decided to line with Japanese tissue and Abra starch (wheat starch) adhesive because of fragile edges. Infilled with Japanese tissue toned with Winsor and Newton artist's watercolours (organic,inorganic pigments,gum arabic). Pressed.
