Treatment; 01 Jul 1999; Lift from board. Remove adhesive. Reduce staining/foxing. Check for flaking pigment and consolidate if necessary. Inlay. Stamp verso.; Western Art on Paper

Reason: Recent Acquisition; Storage
Description: Lifted by undercutting with a scalpel. Debris removed using a poultice of Culminal (nonionic cellulose ether). Adhesive residue removed with cotton wool swabs dampened with warm water. Stains treated on suction point with IMS/H2O, and warm water - a lot of discolouration came out. Applied H2O2 1% with a brush and rinsed through but not very effective. At later date applied sodium borohydride 1% in 50/50 IMS and H2O with a fine brush with better results. Rinsed through. Bleaching was done in sky area only where most disfiguring. Retouched using Winsor and Newton artist's watercolours (organic,inorganic pigments,gum arabic). Humidified over capillary matting and Gore-Tex in a chamber. Pressed. Inlaid to photographic blotting paper with strips of Ino Shi Japanese tissue and Culminal (nonionic cellulose ether) adhesive. Pressed.
