Treatment; 07 Oct 1983; Req 18360; Clean; Metals

Reason: Permanent Exhibition
Description: 1975; Research Lab File 3721. Metal analysis undertaken. Partly clean before received. Stabilized by electrolytic reduction in a 5% aqueous solution of sodium hydroxide electrolyte using stainless steel anodes. Washed in running tap water for 4 hours. The handle and fragment of bowl were soldered back into place with Easy-flo solder. The joint was ragged with silver to cover the solder. The top ring of the bowl was reattached with Durafix (cellulose nitrate) as no mechanical strength was needed. The strainer was lacquered with Frigilene (cellulose nitrate). Conservator C.J.Wheatley. 1981; no req; Moulded for replication using silicone rubber (ICI Silcoset 105) with Plasticine (putty,whiting,linseed oil) walls. 1983; REQ 18360; Brushed with Nitromors water soluble (methylene chloride,sodium hydroxide,cellulose), rinsed in tap water. Polished with Goddardds Silver Foam and Duraglit silver polish old formulation (cotton wadding,white spirit,siliceous earth), degreased with acetone. Lacquered with Frigilene (cellulose nitrate)
