Description
Three sherds were tested for salts, the readings proved negative. Excess adhesive was removed with acetone on a stencil brush, then blotted with tissue. Two sections of the base were joined with HMG heatproof and waterproof adhesive (cellulose nitrate). A support fill was needed to stabalise the join. The edges of the missing area were sealed with a 20% solution of Paraloid B72 (ethyl methacrylate copolymer) the area was supported on one side with dental wax, filled with Superfine casting plaster (hydrated calcium sulphate) mixed with water. Cut back with scalpel blade and sanded smooth with various grades of abrasive paper. Painted with Rowney's Cryla colours (acrylic) diluted with water applied with a sable brush.
