Description
Organics: Cleaned overall using cotton wool swabs moistened with distilled water + Synperonic N (non ionic detergent, nonylphenol ethylene oxide condensate) then polished with Renaissance wax (cosmolloid 80H-microcrystalline wax,BASF hard wax "A"-polyethylene wax, white spirit). Jammed drawers were released and the sides polished with Renaissance wax. All drawers were removed and the interior of the cabinet was examined. Several concealed tills and drawers were found. Metals: Metal fittings cleaned with swabs of acetone to remove old lacquer, polish residues and dirt. Loose rust removed mechanically using a scalpel or pin vice. Heavy tarnish removed as far as possible with Duraglit metal polish (cotton wadding, white spirit, ammonium soap, china clay,Newburgh chalk). Loose metal fitting on base drawer adhered with HMG heatproof and waterproof adhesive (cellulose nitrate) and a replacement nail (on right hand end). Loose fitting on carcass adhered with HMG heatproof and waterproof adhesive (cellulose nitrate).
