Reason: Permanent Exhibition
Description: Surface deposit on sides of tile removed mechanically using a pneumatic power pen The tile was then soaked in water to soften the mortar on the back. This was then removed using a scalpel and a glass bristle brush. The tiles were then steam cleaned using distilled water; run off dirt and water absorbed into soft tissue paper. Back and sides of tiles sealed with 20% Paraloid B72 (ethyl methacrylate copolymer) in acetone applied with a paint brush. Tiles adhered to the roughened surface of an aluminium backing plate with Araldite 2005 (epoxy) mixed with Cab-o-sil (fumed silica). Any excess around the edge of the tiles wiped off with tissue and acetone.
