Description
The object was cleaned using Wishab sponge (vulcanized latex, filler) and a vacuum. Any stubborn areas of dirt were removed or lessened with de-ionized water applied with swabs. Any laminations or losses that appeared vulnerable were capped with Paraloid B72 (ethyl methacrylate copolymer) (20% in IMS:Acetone (propan-1-one/dimethyl ketone)1:1) and Microballoons (silica or phenolic resin) and retouched with Rowney's Cryla colours (acrylic) to match the surrounding stone. In order to avoid dirt and dust collecting at the back of the central break the same Paraloid and Microballoons mixture was used to covered the existing resin and to bring the fill flush with the surrounding stone. The front of the central break was cut back and/or filled with the Paraloid and Microballoons mixture and retouched with Rowney's Cryla colours (acrylic) to match the surrounding stone.
