Rolled strip of linen cloth; medium quality. Colour now dull yellow with oily brown stains - the yellow was possibly produced with a pigment. Starting-border at the inner end of the roll of five groups of transverse threads - the outer one thicker, the looped ends of the warp threads grouped. The weave is plain [warp-faced simple tabby] and the threads are S-spun and S-spliced; the stitch gauge is warp c.34 ends per 10mm and weft 20 picks per 10mm. Edges torn; areas of wear predating final use. On one outer corner is an inscribed "S"; perhaps padding for mummy.
