- Description
-
Two textile fragments of pleated linen kilt. Linen was probably undyed, but now a dark brown colour; rigid and brittle. The pleats are at an angle of 10degrees to the weft and are about 2mm deep, recurring every 5-6 mm. The weave is plain [warp-faced simple tabby] and the threads are S-spliced and S-twisted; the stitch gauge is warp c.19 ends per 10mm and weft c.9-10 picks per 10mm.

- Curator's comments
- The pleats do not seem regular enough to have been made with a pleating board.
