- In a report to the Trustees dated 3 October 1889, recommending purchase of the Lawson collection, Renouf noted that 'many of the objects ... were purchased by Mr Lawson at a sale of Egyptian antiquities which took place in the house of a French savant this year at Alexandria; the remainder were bought at Ahmim and Luxor.' The sources of the individual objects are not specified.
