- Description

Inlay face of a king: the relief faces right and was moulded in opaque turquoise-blue glass, the upper surface having a low polish. The eye is outlined with dark-blue glass which was probably used in the eyebrow as well for that area retains a dark-blue adhesive. On the ear-lobe is the usual indication of piercing. In general, the features are heavy with a prominent nose. Channels for attachment drilled after moulding from each end exist at the upper right and lower left. Intact.

- Curator's comments
- When Birch first recorded this relief face in 1857 he commented on its likeness to representations of Ramses II, and there is little doubt that this king is represented here. The increased thickness of this relief is characteristic of glass reliefs after the Eighteenth Dynasty. The stated provenance of the piece is most unlikely.
