- Curator's comments
- Cf. carnelian beads in Earl of Carnarvon & H. Carter, 'Five Years' Exploration at Thebes, 1907-11' (London, 1912) pl.XLV. 2C: Middle Kingdom.
The date could possibly also be Old Kingdom: Shiah (unpublished thesis) notes that cornelian beads are usually dark-pink in colour in the Sixth Dynasty. Brunton in G. Brunton, 'Qau and Badari' II (London, 1927-30), 20, notes that Old Kingdom cornelian is often of a pale-pinky translucent variety. But cf. W. M. F. Petrie, ‘Dendereh 1898’, (London, 1900), pl.XXIII, from the tomb of Antefoker. Eleventh Dynasty = Ashmolean Museum. Oxford EE 159.
